A 56-year-old Pennsylvania predator is facing charges in Frederick County after being busted having sexually explicit conversations with an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, April 20, Ronald Laman, of Chambersburg, initiated an illicit conversation with what he believed to be a teen girl, who was in fact a detective doing online surveillance and investigation.

During the conversation, the detective advised Laman that he was having a conversation with a 13-year-old child, officials noted, though he continued to “engage in a sexual conversation” with the undercover agent, allegedly soliciting multiple sexual acts.

Investigators said that Laman stated he would be willing to travel from Pennsylvania to Frederick County for the purposes of engaging in sexual activities with the girl, which he wanted to happen “ASAP.”

Laman fell right into the trap set by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

After speaking with the “teen,” Laman drove to an agreed-upon spot in Frederick County to meet up with his potential victim. Instead, he was met by a swarming team of detectives who arrested him immediately without incident.

Laman was charged with six separate child exploitation charges that include:

  • Child porn solicitation;
  • Two counts of obscene material sale to minors;
  • Three counts of sexual solicitation of a minor.

“I am proud of the work these detectives put into this investigation. Our investigators work tirelessly to identify and apprehend those targeting and victimizing one of the most vulnerable groups in our community, our children,” Frederick County Sheriff Lt. Andrew Crone said in a statement.

“Our agency makes these offenses a top priority and we are thankful for the detectives and community partners that dedicate themselves to fighting child exploitation.”
